2015, Colombia—Santa Marta
A failed application of a standard cold mix in a 1¼ cm by 30 cm deep fiber optic trench, spanning just over 28 miles. The trench travels along a coastal road where it’s exposed to sand, salt, and sea mist; with temperatures peaking around 116° F.
The Story:
20 days after paving—with hot mix—over a base layer of standard cold mix—trench marks appeared. The cold mix wasn’t holding.
The government immediately stopped the job.
Skeptical, the governor of the department of Magdalena only agreed to try EZ Street high performance asphalt pending a performance bond warranty.
Colombian EZ Street distributor, Oscar Victoria, confidently posted the bond, customized an install method for the application, and quickly trained the crew.
Seven years later there’s still not a single mark to be found.
